In 1880 Adelheid and Edmond de Rothschild bought a piece of land between the the rue de Ville-just, rue Léonard-de-Vinci and the avenue du Bois-de-Boulogne (now the avenue Foch) with the intention of building a town house there.  Their daughter, Alexandrine, inherited the house and made considerable alterations to the existing house using the architect Walter-André Destailleur.
