Benjamin Edmond Maurice Adolphe Henri Isaac de Rothschild (1963-2021)

Benjamin Edmond Maurice Adolphe Henri Isaac de Rothschild was the son of Edmond Adolphe Maurice Jules de Rothschild (1926-1997) and Nadine Nelly Jeanette de Rothschild (née Lhopitalier) (b.1932). He married Ariane Elisabeth Langner in 1999.

An entrepreneur, passionate about finance, sailing and automobiles, as well as a wine enthusiast, Benjamin de Rothschild was also an active philanthropist, notably involved in continuing the family's tradition of developing innovation with the Adolphe de Rothschild Foundation Hospital. Benjamin de Rothschild died unexpectedly in January 2021.

La Compagnie Financière Edmond de Rothschild (LCF)

In 1989, Benjamin de Rothschild founded the Compagnie de Trésorerie to offer advanced financial risk management services. Following the death of his father Edmond de Rothschild (1926-1997), Benjamin de Rothschild became the president of the Swiss banking group La Compagnie Financière Edmond de Rothschild (LCF), which his father founded in 1953. In 2009, Benjamin's wife, Ariane de Rothschild became the Vice-President of La Compagnie Financière Edmond de Rothschild (LCF). 

The Edmond de Rothschild Group

In 2010, La Compagnie Financière Edmond de Rothschild (LCF) changed its name to the Edmond de Rothschild Group, and in 2015, Ariane de Rothschild became CEO of the Edmond de Rothschild Group. The business has interests in private banking, asset management, private equity, institutional and fund services and corporate finance. The group also includes the lifestyle label Edmond de Rothschild Heritage (fine wine and cheese, luxury hotels and restaurants). Based in Geneva, the Edmond de Rothschild Group remains family-owned and independent, and is a separate business to that of Rothschild & Co.

Other interests

Ariane and Benjamin de Rothschild developed wineries in Bordeaux (Château Clarke, Château Malmaison, Château des Laurets), and in South Africa and Argentina. The Group also owns the Domaine du Mont d'Arbois in Megéve, as well as a farming business, le Domaine des Trente Arpents in Tournan in Brie. 

In 2000, together with Baroness Ariane de Rothschild, Benjamin created the Gitana Team, a highly successful racing sailing team, with victories in the Route du Rhum, The Transat, the Rolex Fastnet Race, the Transat Jacques Vabre, as well as the Orma grands prix. Benjamin often joined his teams on their transtalantic passages, which were sponsored by Group Edmond de Rothschild.

Philanthropy

The late Benjamin de Rothschild and his wife Ariane were instrumental in the work of the Edmond de Rothschild Foundations, whose focus is on education, arts and culture, social entrepreneurship, cross-cultural dialogue and health research. The Ariane de Rothschild Fellowship, aims to create a transatlantic network of social innovators. The Ariane de Rothschild art prize, dedicated to contemporary art, was established in 2003.
