Jeannette Rothschild (1771-1859)

Jeanette Rothschild was the eldest of Mayer Amschel Rothschild's children. Her Hebrew name was Schönge, but in common with Mayer Amschel's other daughters, she was more commonly known by the non-Hebrew name.

Jeanette was born at the house of the Hinterpfann on 20 August 1771, and married a Frankfurt merchant, Benedikt Moses Worms, on 28 January 1795. She had six children, of which three were sons who, like their father, had a close working relationship with the Rothschild firm. When the sons were ennobled, they adopted arms which showed three arrows and a red shield, a clear reference to their Rothschild ancestry.

Jeanette, like her mother, Gutle, lived to an advanced age. She died on 15 February 1859 aged 88 in her house in the Frankfurt residential street, the Zeil.
