Nathan James Edouard (James Edouard) de Rothschild Anatole de Montaiglon

Notes

In Croisière autour de mes souvenirs, Henri de Rothschild claims that his father's collaboration with Montaiglon began as early as 1856, but was only openly acknowledged in the final four volumes of this work. This is the largest known collection of 'poésies detachées' , French popular verse, printed on single sheets for circulation with journals and pamphlets in the 15th and 16th centuries, embracing such themes as political satire, morality tales, fables, lives of the saints. Many of them are published here for the first time, with literary and historical notes. Ninety five of the poems belong to James de Rothschild's private collection of historical documents.
