In 1949 Rosemary and her husband bought a farm on the edge of the Menengai crater in Kenya which they named ‘Rhodora’ after a yacht belonging to Rosemary's father. The weekly newsletters sent by them to their families form the basis of this book, which describes the work of the farm, domestic life, and the increasing threat of the Mau Mau. The Seys left Kenya in 1962.
