The Rothschild Library: a catalogue of the collection of eighteenth-century printed books and manuscripts formed by Lord Rothschild

Cambridge University Press Cambridge 1954 840pp.

Nathaniel Mayer (Victor) Rothschild

Notes

The first volume contains Lord Rothschild's foreword (pp.ix-x) giving a brief history of his collecting activity, and acknowledging the work of N.M. Shawyer and K.M. Flack in the compilation of the catalogue. The first page of Proposals for printing is reproduced (p.xi). This detailed catalogue of Lord Rothschild's collection of 18th century first editions, bindings and manuscripts in the Wren Library at Trinity College, Cambridge gives detailed descriptions of the works, illustrated with selected reproductions of title pages, bindings and manuscripts. The collection is particularly rich in works by Jonathan Swift and Swiftiana.
